Sweet Paprika Moves to the D-Lounge
New night! New venue! New attitude!
So tonight was the second show of Sweet Paprika at the D Lounge. Okay. Here are my instructions to you: save your documents, shut down your computer and go over to the D Lounge RIGHT NOW!
You may already know from my prior once-every-two-months blogs that Sweet Paprika has been looking for a home for quite a few months now. Finally, thanks to a friend, we found the D Lounge. I have to say, I couldn't be happier. I actually went up the bartender after tonight's show and told him that he charged me for 2 wines, but actually it should have been 3.
Now that is love people. I have never done that before. By the way - should I be worried that I'm drinking 3 glasses of wine on a Monday? Naw - I'm claiming that it is not a problem, it's more of a European thing.
The difference:
After our first show last week, the general manager emailed both Allison and I with feedback...and I don't mean - I didn't like this joke or the show ended too late... It was more like - I think the lighting should be adjusted a bit and let's move the tables closer and let me know if you guys need any help with marketing. I was shocked! I have never run a show at a place that is so pro-performers and pro-performance. I didn't even know how to respond, and I tried to be suspicious, but there was little-to-no dicey behavior for me to hang my paranoid hat on. They just want us to run a good and successful show there. They want to give us what we need. It's so simple, but it doesn't sound right... right? Our sound guy spend 15 minutes tonight adjusting our microphone heights. It was verging on cute! In the past we have had to bring our own mic. In a Gap bag. Hook it up ourselves to a "sound system" that may have served as a prototype for the first sound system in 1918. (The year after women in Canada gained the right to vote, sound systems were invented - no surprise). And often there was no mic stand, or it was broken (as were our dreams back then).
We dragged so many people into less worthy venues in the past to support our show, it makes me sick, especially now in comparison. Now I urge you to support this venue that supports its people. The space is gorgeous and new, the staff is fun and cool, and the drinks are reasonable, even verging on cheap.
Do the right thing and drop by the D Lounge. I want to make sure it survives.
We are their every Monday night at 9:30pm. Hey - if you come by and say you came because you read my blog - I'll buy you whatever you want to drink. Thank you.

The space is beautiful. It's classy without being too highbrow or inaccessible.
Perfect for Sweet Paprika!
